FAQ

How do I find colours that go together?+
Enter one colour you like and the Color Match Finder shows the classic colour harmonies for it: complementary, analogous, triadic, split complementary, tetradic and monochromatic. Pick one harmony, let one colour lead, and use the others in smaller amounts.
Can I get a colour palette from an image?+
Yes. Click From image or drop a photo on the upload box. The tool pulls the main colours out of the image in your browser, picks the most vivid one as your base colour, and builds matching palettes from it. The image is never uploaded to a server.
What are tints, shades and neutrals for?+
Interfaces need more than five colours. The primary scale (50 to 900) gives you light steps for backgrounds, middle steps for buttons and dark steps for text and hover states. The neutrals are greys tinted towards your colour, which carry most of a layout.
What contrast ratio do I need?+
For body text, at least 4.5:1 against its background (WCAG AA). Large text and interface elements such as icons and input borders need at least 3:1. The contrast check shows whether white or dark text works on your colour.
Is the Color Match Finder free?+
Yes, completely free with no sign-up. You can copy any colour, copy CSS variables for the palette, and share a palette by copying the link.
